Credit Card Identity Theft Protection

Credit card identity theft is a very serious crime that is on the rise around the world, with many new fraudulent crimes being committed against innocent people each and every day. Credit card identity theft is particularly bad as you may not even know that it has been going on until your credit card statement arrives with you. Therefore it is important that you are aware of the issue and take a pro-active stance towards identity theft by protecting yourself. Here are a few tips that will get you started.

Shred All Statements
Never ever throw out any bank statements, loan statements or credit card statements without shredding them first. Before you shred them it is a good idea to use a permanent marker to conceal any numbers that may be sensitive. Shred well before throwing in the rubbish. Ideally any sensitive statements should be burned so that there is no chance they will come into contact with an identity thief
Try And Arrange Electronic Statements
Another way to protect yourself is to stop having your bank statements mailed to you. Many banks now offer electronic statements that can be read and printed off via the internet. This means that an identity thief cannot intercept your statements for fraudulent purposes.
Use A Credit Card With Built-in Identity Theft Protection
You'll find that many companies are now offering credit cards with built in identity theft protection. This means that even if an identity thief got hold of your details and used them, you would be totally exempt. Many of these cards also allow 0 per cent balance transfers, which is very handy indeed!
Don't Store Sensitive Data On Your Computer
Do not store any banking details or credit card numbers on your computer as a hacker may gain access to your system and steal them for the purpose of fraud. Also setup a firewall, scan your system for adware / spyware and viruses that may be sending information back to identity thieves.
