How To Stop Credit Card Offers

If you do manage your credit card well you will probably have noticed a rise in the number of pre-approved credit card offers that you receive in the mail. This is because the issuers know that you are a good customer who pays on time by looking at your credit score.

While it can be flattering to be offered so many credit cards, often with very attractive rates, it can also be very annoying and may even erode your discipline. After-all, it is much more work to manage 2 credit cards!

If you are fed up receiving all the credit card offers in your mail then there is a way to opt out of the promotions you get. Rather than looking on in dismay as this never-ending torrent of pre-approved offers fills up your bin and wastes resources you can take action.

Opt Out Via Letter
You can write a letter to each of the credit reference agencies requesting that your name and address be removed from their lists of people eligible for pre-approved credit cards. You must include your name, full street address and your Social Security number. If you have moved house recently you should also include your old address.
Opting Out Via Phone
Calling 1-888-5-OPTOUT allows you to opt out of any pre-approved offers. This service is automated and ran in association with the credit agencies. You'll have to enter your details into the system, which will then mail you a confirmation letter.
