Basic Home Heating Tips
There are many simple ways that you can lower your home heating budget. Many homes rely on old delapidated heating systems to keep them warm and comfortable throughout the winter months, but if you plan ahead you can easily make big financial savings. Following these few basic home heating tips will get you started on the path to a better heating budget.
- Water Heaters
- If you make one quick change to your water heater, make it this one! Lowering your water heater temperature from 140 degrees to 130 degrees will save you approximately 10% on your water-heating bill. You can also install a shower head that restricts water flow so that you can reduce water usage by up to 50%. Another cost-saving tip is to drain your water heater every 6 months or so to remove lime deposits and increase efficiency.
- Home Heating
- Get your home heating system checked regularly by a professional serviceman - this will make your system much more efficient and increase it's lifespan. Changing your furnace filters every month will also increase the efficiency of your burner and reduce heating costs. Fitting draft excluders on outside doors and windows keeps the interior warm, so you use less energy to heat the house.
- Home Appliances
- Check to make sure that your oven is burning with a blue flame, if it isn't get it serviced. Make sure that all your home appliances, such as dryers and washers, are working properly by getting them serviced regularly.
