- The cost of lighting your house can really add up very quickly, but getting the cost of lighting cut back to size is probably one of the easiest ways to reduce your electricity bill. For some unknown reason many of us like to enter a room, switch on the lights, stay a while then move to another room. Even worse, many will light up the entire building even though they only spend their evening in one or two rooms! This is the main reason that your bill is so large, so start getting into the habit of turning those lights off when you leave the room. Another cost cutting measure is to fit all your lighting fixtures with energy efficient light bulbs. This alone will reduce your electricity bill by a sizeable chunk each and every month. Also, cut back on the use of outdoors lights.

Cutting back on your air conditioner costs is relatively simple though and can be started by fitting a programmable thermostat. This will mean the unit is only used when it is needed. If you can place the unit under shade it will have to use less energy to cool the air. Servicing the air conditioner on a regular basis will ensure it runs efficiently, rather than draining electricity and money.
