Dealing With Creditors
How do you deal with your creditors? Do you ever deal with your creditors? The probability is that you have never spoken directly with your creditors about your finances, just like everyone you know! Many people seem scared to initiate discussion with their creditors, but you reall shouldn't be. If you have a problem with credit card debt and are now trying to work your way out the situation, the best people you can talk to are your creditors. If you want to consolidate your debt, then you've got to talk to them. Here are some tips to guide you through your dealing with creditors.
- Realize Your Situation Before Talking
- There is very little point in calling your creditors with a vague notion of your financial situation. You should be 'au fait' with the amount of money you owe, how much you earn and how much you can afford. Sounding like a responsible customer is a good way to build up trust with them from the start.
- Prioritize Your Debt
- Make a list of all that you owe to your creditors and break it down into sections. How much do you owe on your credit card? How much do you owe on your mortgage? How much do you owe in bank loans? Once you have established what exactly you owe your various creditors, you can start to prioritize. Start with the smallest debt balance that you have and pay this off first. This will save you money because you will not be paying as much in interest every month. Then target your next smallest debt balance and pay it off. Doing so repeatedly will allow you to save significantly on your repayments over the long term.
- Arrange A Payment Plan With Your Creditors
- If you are unable to meet the full repayments of your credit card / bank loan or other debt then contact your creditor and arrange a solid payment plan. Do not try and make your situation sound better than it is, don't tell lies. Tell your ceditors exactly what you know and come to an arrangement that suits both of you. Be realistic, otherwise you may not be able to meet your repayment plan.
- Stick At It
- Set yourself monthly targets and keep going. There are so many ways that you can save money, which can then be used to pay off your loans. Just think that once it has all been taken care of, you will be debt free!
