Help With Cutting Debt
Debt is a problem for many families now more than ever. The average household in the United States now faces credit card debt of $8,000. It has now got to the stage that credit card debt is an accepted part of everyday life, with many people living with serious debts hanging over them. But it simply does not have to be like that - with a few changes you can cut your debt way back and start enjoying the many benefits of a debt free existence.
The big problem with many people who have acquired large credit card debt is that they have become used to the situation and any of the usual debt reduction techniques just don't work. In order to really address your credit card debt problem you've got to realize how serious your situation is right now. For example, if you have $3,000 in credit card debt and just make the typical minimum monthly repayments 0f about $70 it will take you approximately 205 months to pay it back! The longer you have debt, the longer it stays with you.
So if you find yourself in a situation with mounting credit card debt that never seems to reduce in size, you must make changes. Making a few small changes here and there aren't enough - you need to change your lifestyle.
- Reduce Your Housing Costs
- If you can, move to a cheaper place to live. If you can, move back in with your parents and drop that costly rental apartment. If moving is not an option, think about getting a roommate to help with your accomodation costs.
- Use Public Transport
- If you can, sell your car and use the funds to pay off your debt. Selling your car will also save you money on fuel, insurance and servicing.
- Quit Smoking & Drinking
- Your habits can be very expensive so drop them. Smoking and drinking are expensive and will not do your health any favours.
- Get Another Job
- If you have spare time then you can start putting it to some good use - find another job at a local store and use the money for the sole purpose of paying back your credit card debt.
- Sell Your Stuff On eBay
- If you have gathered up 'stuff' that you don't really use, then sell it on eBay or have a garage sale. You'll be surprised how much you can raise through this.
